Bedminster Hike and Bikeway Description

The 2.8-mile eastern phase of the Bedminster Hike and Bikeway allows pedestrians and cyclists to safely traverse part of Bedminster Township by crossing over I-287 and US 206/202 via a series of three bridges. The trail runs between The Hills development and River Road Park and links residential areas with schools, business districts and parks.

Begin on the corner of Main and Elm streets in Bedminister village (near the "Old School") and follow the trail past the elementary school to Miller Lane Park. From here, the trail follows the Albert Winkler/Herbert Snyder Nature Trail, goes around the pond and heads for River Road Park, ending at Robertson Drive.

Along the trail you will find more than 40 species of trees and perennial plants, which are marked with signs for identification.

Parking and Trail Access

Access the Bedminster Hike and Bikeway at the elementary school, 234 Somerville Road, or from Bedminster Pond, US 202/206 northbound. For more information, contact Bedminister Township Recreation & Parks Department.

Bedminster Hike and Bikeway Reviews

great trail for families

I've been using this trail for over 12 years, since my son was in a stroller. That's how i found it, because I was looking for a path that was flat, paved and great for walking. 12 years later, we now go there as a family on bikes. It has a good variety of straightaways and short elevation bursts. It's not very long so you can probably ride the entire trail and back in about an hour.

Decent bike trail

I rode it with my 7 year old son Pros - nicely paved and not too crowded on the day we rode it Cons - A lot of the trail is within earshot of major highways, so the constant hum of traffic takes away some of the fun. Overall, if you live nearby it’s a nice trail, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for this one.

Great Family Bike Trail

Great trail for families. Nice paved road with a few slight inclines for a nice variation. Great neighborhood and easy parking at the elementary school.

All Around the Town

"On the day of my visit not all proposed segments of Bedminster’s Hike & Bikeway were open for public use. However, those segments open were freshly paved, well landscaped, and equipped with adequate safety signage near at-grade road crossings. With the exception of inclined ramps leading to several pedestrian bridges over major highways, the trail is completely flat.

When construction is fully completed the Hike & Bikeway will link residential neighborhoods divided by busy highways to recreation fields, schools, and municipally owned buildings within the Township. Children and adults will then be able to bike, in-line skate, and/or walk from point to point on motor vehicle free, or striped road shoulder bikeway routes.

Ample parking with convenient access to the off-road trail network is currently available behind the Police/Fire Department complex, off of US Route 202, or at River Road Park, near I-287. I printed a trail map from the official trail website and found it very handy to have along on my walk.

If you live near Bedminster, add this trail to your list of those to visit. Although its road shoulder/sidewalk segments are nothing to write home about, the off-road trail network is very pleasing. About ½ of the currently open 2.8-mile system is comprised of off-road trails."
