Ocean Parkway Trail Description

The Ocean Parkway Trail closely follows its eponymous thoroughfare nearly 5 miles through several Brooklyn neighborhoods, ending only a block from the popular Coney Island boardwalk. Those traveling with children will enjoy the many playgrounds just off the route: Brighton, Century, Grady and McDonald. However, parents should note that the trail crosses several busy intersections. A few blocks north of the Church Avenue trailhead, the Parade Grounds of Prospect Park offer additional recreational amenities with its baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts and football fields.

Parking and Trail Access

A parking lot is available at the Parade Grounds of Prospect Park, a few blocks north of the Church Avenue trailhead. Subway riders can take the Q train to the Ocean Parkway Station, just a block from the trail's southern terminus on Sea Breeze Avenue. There are also several F-line subway stations on McDonald Avenue, which parallels Ocean Parkway a few blocks to the west.

Ocean Parkway Trail Reviews

Not a pleasant trail

I rode my bike down to Brighton Beach the other evening and this pathway is 1. too crowded, 2. poorly maintained and 3. very stressful during daylight hours. It’s full of traffic and people and it’s not very relaxing unless you’re walking at night or not during a pandemic here in Brooklyn, New York City!

Poorly maintained asfalt

Only acceptable for the large wheels bikes. Can not enjoy rollerblading or a ride on a smaller bikes.

not recommended

The path is very poorly maintained, with lot of potholes and tree roots coming out. Safer to ride with that cars to be honest.

scenic but pay attention to cars and pedestrians

This path follows Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn. You are riding on a sidewalk, separate from cars but not from careless people. It is a bike only path but that's usually ignored a few pedestrians per block. I use it daily for one segment of my trip to work. It is poorly maintained.
