Easter Lake Spine Trail Description

A short, paved trail that connects neighborhoods and preserved open space to the Mark C. Ackelson Trail at Easter Lake Park, the Easter Lake Spine Trail is a useful asset to the community and forms a key link in the evolving trail network in the city of Des Moines. Running between the backyards of the adjacent subdivision and a series of stormwater retention reservoirs, the trail provides a nice little path for outdoor recreation and exercise.

Plans are in the works to connect the trail with the Carlisle Nature Trail and the Summerset Trail outside Des Moines, which would form an unbroken chain of trails all the way from Indianola to southeastern Des Moines.

Parking and Trail Access

No dedicated parking is available for this trail, but trail users may park along the southern end of the Mark C. Ackelson Trail to access the trail, located off of Easter Lake Drive just west of SE 34th Street.
