Greenway Trail (Altoona) Description

For residents looking for a low-key space to get some exercise, the Greenway Trail provides a swathe of nature nestled between suburban subdivisions of Altoona. The trail runs the length of Greenway Park, extending just over a mile from 4th Street to a dead end just north of Adventureland Road. The trail is paved and flat, easy enough for the old and the young alike. The highlight of the trail is the manmade pond populated with fish and waterfowl. The park also has picnic tables for folks who want to linger outside.

Aside from this relatively short trail, Altoona also boasts the Gay Lea Wilson Trail which is accessible just across 4th Street in Lions Park. This trail stretches over 20 miles through the Des Moines suburbs of Pleasant Hill and Ankeny.

Parking and Trail Access

There is a parking lot for Greenway Park off Adventureland Drive, just east of 10th Avenue NW.
