The trail is made up of two as yet unconnected segments: the northern segment is about half a mile long, providing access to Grinnell Community Senior School, Lion's Park, and Iowa Valley Community College. This segment intersects with the Rock Creek Recreational Bike Trail, which extends 5.8 miles west to Rock Creek State Park. The southern segment starts at Hazelwood Cemetery and winds along Lake Arbor and then takes a straight path down to Industrial Avenue.
To reach the northern end of the trail in Grinnell from Interstate-80, take exit 182 and head north on West Street for several miles. Take a left onto 8th Avenue, then turn right onto Sunset St. at the community college. The trail's start is at the intersection of Sunset St. and 11th Ave.
There's parking for the southern segment at the western end of Washington Avenue.
