K-96 Bicycle Path Reviews

Better for running

I really wanted to love this path but the street crossing, sidewalks and poor signage made it just ok. I thought I was lost when the path just ended without any signs - but that it the was it was designed. I like parts of the path but it was just not long enough and had too many street crossings to be good for distance cycling. You can meet up with other paths and get in 30-40 miles+ BUT that is a lot of street crossings. I think it is a much more suited for joggers and people only wanting to ride a few miles.

traffic

Lots of stops on busy intersections. Many automobiles entering crosswalks.

K-96 Bike Path is a great trail!

I rode the entire trail this evening from Central Ave to N Oliver Ave and back. This trial is really great! Not too much elevation change since Kansas is flat, but there were a few spots that had some incline that made the legs burn a bit. The asphalt and concrete trail surface is in good shape. The only "bad" spot was a mile or so stretch just west of Cabelas outdoor store. The asphalt surface was a little uneven in a few spots but not bad at all. The places where you cross busy intersections have crosswalks and lights so that wasn't an issue. I rode in the evening after business hours so the parking lot entrances you cross on Cypress Dr and E 32nd weren't an issue. I'm guessing they might be earlier in the day. All in all a great trail!

Currently under repair-Aug 2014

Great trail from 127th to 21st Street. Open to the wind there but this is Kansas, after all. Currently trail is closed between 21st Street and Webb road, forcing you into some more city traffic than usual. The ride through Chilsom Creek Park is worth the effort to ge there.
