Red Wing Riverfront Trail Description

Although only stretching a half mile, the paved Red Wing Riverfront Trail, which opened in 2016, offers an important connection between two parks along the Mississippi River in the charming community of Red Wing.

On the trail's west side, Bay Point Park provides places to picnic, a playground, and a boat launch. On this end of the trail, you can also pick up the Cannon Valley Trail, a scenic, wooded rail-trail that heads westward for nearly 20 miles to Cannon Falls.

On the east end of the riverfront trail is Levee Park, a well-shaded greenspace with historical monuments to explore and benches for taking in the beautiful river views. Across the park, you can see the Red Wing Station, originally built by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad in 1905; today it serves Amtrak trains.

Eventually, planners hope to continue the trail farther east to connect to Barn Bluff, the city's most famed geologic landmark, and Colvill Park.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking and restrooms are available in Bay Point Park (1392 Levee Road), and a parking lot can be found at Levee Park (420 Levee Street), located across from the Red Wing train station which houses restrooms.
