Bridgeport Walking Trail

August, 2021 by brucebeach

Trail is one mile out, and one mile back(you have to make the roundtrip). You walk up an incline from the railway station parking lot, about 75 yards or less, and the rest of the walk is flat. The first half thru the park is almost all in the shade and then the walk across the bridge/river is all in the sun. Very beautiful, peaceful, an easy stroll for older people, like my wife and I. If you find yourself in the Bridgeport, Alabama area, I would highly reccomend.

Bring your pooch on a leash; remember to pickup after pup. It's HGHS property, but they are nice enough to keep it open to the community - people and pups.

favorite trail

October, 2020 by mitch.whitlock

12 miles of trail from Thompson lane to Barfield park. Some areas are more congested than others, but overall not crowded. Add in the battlefield trails and Gateway Island loop for pretty scenery and a history lesson. There are multiple trailheads for access across the entire town. Several of the trailheads have public restrooms that are reasonably clean.

In-line skating the trails

September, 2020 by rmaron

These trails have a LOT going for them, but strictly for skating I give them only 3 stars.

The asphalt is in good shape in terms of not having very many root cracks, but roughly half of it was paved using course aggregate. There is a lot of vibration of the wheels going over it. Not smooth pavement that is a pleasure to skate on.

The trail is well shaded, and that keeps it cool. But it also delays evaporation of water off the pavement. The day I skated it (in late afternoon) there were many wet/damp spots. These were very slippery.

It’s asphalt now not crushed stone. Great for runs after school or walks.

Great Ride

April, 2020 by ashli_hall

This was a great trail in general. Perfect for walking or biking. Many of the entrance points have air stations for your bike tires if needed! The trail was beautiful! Scenes of waterfalls, streams and greenery! I will be back!

Great Trail!

March, 2020 by kira.d.burnett

My husband and I took the trail that started near Mountain Outfitters and ended nearby Sewanee. Beautiful, fun ride! After the first swervy bit, it was a straight shot with a good amount of slow uphill and downhill areas. I was worried about crossing roads, but it wasn’t bad and there was moderately low and friendly foot traffic. At the end if t trail, we biked around Sewanee and had a picnic before heading back. So glad this is near us while we’re all still social distancing. ¿¿¿¿

Tiny But Impactful Rail Trail

October, 2019 by edmcanally

This jewel of a trail is making me reconsider skipping all the small trails. At right at 2 miles round trip, the Bridgeport Walking Trail boasts outstanding scenery, a river crossing and parallels a working railroad. The trail begins near the old depot on Bonner Ave. A steep ascension is difficult to navigate in 90+ degree heat but soon transitions to a gravel railroad bed leading to the Tennessee River. If you wish to ride to the bridge, I’d advise taking the paved Bonner Ave. If you are traveling I24, take the South Pittsburgh Exit and and stretch a few minutes in Bridgeport.
