Valkommen Trail Description

The Valkommen Trail runs for 2.5 miles along an abandoned section of the old Missouri-Pacific and Union Pacific rail beds. The trail features a renovated railroad bridge and is a popular trail for families. The Valkommen Trail extends between Bethany College campus in the north and Old Mill Campground in the south, with a loop that extends through Riverside Park.

Trail highlights include a stop by the Erickson Brothers Workshop, a historical site that interprets the history of brothers who invented the dial telephone. Also at the park you'll find the 1904 World's Fair Swedish Pavilion. Toward the north end of the trail is a skate park.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the trail is at Bethany College (off Bethany Drive near the ball field), off Lindsborg St. just east of Main St. and along 1st St. by Riverside Park.

Valkommen Trail Reviews

Nicely Done

Nicely done trail with lots of information signs along the trail telling the history of the town and the Swedish folks that settled in the area. Paved and wide trail. South end has a connection to the Meadowlark trail for a more countryside ride. Recommend this trail when in the area. A number of other riders/walkers encountered on the trail, all with a friendly wave and Hi!

Lindsborg at Its Best

I love Lindsborg and having a rail/trail through the heart of the city is icing on the cake. (Way too bad the Sunflower Trail that went South to McPherson never got completed).

The trail is not enough to make a special trip for but the city is. So--if you're in the city and have a bicycle, take the time for this trail. Well worth it.
