Jane Addams Trail

Extremely Nice trail

February, 2022 by wphan

We started at Freeport, Rode the entire length of Jane Addams trail(stopping at the wildlife santuary right off the trial), continue on to Badger state trail in WI and then hop over to Sugar river trail to New Glarus, WI. We spent a night in New Glarus. Two hotels (and pizza restaurant) in New Glarus are right off the trail and are very bike friendly (Whole town is!) Cycle back the next day. slightly over 40+ miles one way. Jane Addams is definitely the nicest of the 3 trails(and it is FREE, WI charge $5/day to use their trail). Special shout out to the volunteers at Jane Addams(freeport) trailhead that help maintain the trial clean/safe and provide Free ICE COLD Water during HOT summer weekend. will most likely make this trip every year with the family. Bring a spare tire/tube or use gel tube. I hit a walnut seed and had a flat! (28mm wide tires). I would say entire trip is almost 70-80% shaded, we did that on a high 90s day and feel very comfortable.

Kiwanis Bike Trail

A very nice trail. Flat with asphalt. Northern half is well shaded. A small section on the southern portion of the tail is on road. At the southern trailhead, there is a family of bald eagles nesting across the river! The northern trailhead is at Riverside Park. Lots of shaded picnic areas, a playground, frisbee golf, shuffleboard and a city golf course. The trail also goes through Janesville’s Town Square which is close to lots of shopping and restaurants. From Kiwanis Trail, there is easy access to Peace Trail and Spring Brook Trial.

Lake Country Recreation Trail

Disappointing & Bad Stretch near Nemahbin Lake

October, 2021 by jacquibudde

Was very excited to try this trail between Fish Hatchery (Delafield) and Oconomowoc downtown....but was disappointed. So much of the trail is between power line poles and fairly uninteresting. The worst, however, was the stretch around Nemahbin Lake--where the trail literally disappears completely and you are left navigating a narrow, heavily travelled road with no shoulders in some places! I can't believe this portion is still called the Lake Country trail--when there is no trail. I would not recommend this route for families with young children, given this dangerous stretch with cars whizzing past.

...loved the concept of this path and the ability to enjoy downtown Delafield and downtown Oconomowoc, though. I just wish is was better developed and a bit more interesting/rustic.

Pine River Trail

Wonderfully quiet trail

October, 2021 by kurt.byfield

We rode the trail on 10/09/21 from Richland Center to Lone Rock and back again. The trail is very well maintained, extremely quiet and very easy to ride. There’s a number of bridges over wetlands and the Pine River, some canopy sections, periods of farmland and a wide variety of other settings. As it’s not a heavily used trail, there are parts which have some grass and weeds growing down the center but nothing which would prevent you from continuing on. While we used fatbikes for the ride, we could have easily done it on our road bikes. Anyone expecting to find miles of paved trail should look elsewhere. This trail is exactly as advertised.

And contrary to what Trailinks indicates, it’s 15.9 miles from the trailhead on 6th street in Richland Center to the end in Lone Rock.

Really really liked the trail, I’m in town from Michigan for work and what an awesome way to spend the day. I’ve never road gravel before today and had a blast

Nice Nature Trail

We only did New Glarus to Monticello. Pretty ride, but not paved at all. More like a car path, but hard packed. We would ride it again if in the area.

Great Sauk State Trail

Good trail

From VFW parking lot to the end (fenced off area that might one day head into Devils Lake) is just under 10M. Mild grades, fully paved and lots of areas to stop and site see. This trail goes into the Badger Lands which used to be a 10,000 acre munitions plant during WWII. Now the area is split into USDA, public space, and Ho Chunk Nation territory (private). Very well maintained trail with minimal interruptions.

Lake Mills to Deerfield

Beautiful trail between Lake Mills and Deerfield. Ice cream in Deerfield! No ruts - hard packed crushed limestone. I rode my road bike with out problem. Just wish they had ice
