Black Diamond Trail

Great Finger Lakes Trail!

May, 2022 by steve.schwinn

Rode this trail as an out-and-back on 5/17/22 starting at the southern trailhead at the Ithaca Children’s Garden (also has easy access to a paved trail to Cass Park and the Cayuga Waterfront Trail). This is a great trail for anything other than a road bike that gently ascends to the northern trailhead in beautiful Taughannock Falls State Park where the old railroad trestle across Taughannock Creek serves as a viewpoint and a short ride will take you to the Taughannock Falls Overlook View Point.

Great Finger Lakes Trail!

May, 2022 by steve.schwinn

Road this trail as an out-and-back on 5/17/22 starting at the southern trailhead (not shown on TrailLink but it was added to Google Maps) that shares a parking area with the Ek Birding Trail on Huck Finn Road. The first mile or so north is a bit rough buy fully ridable. This is a great trail for anything other than a road bike with access to multiple waterfalls along the way, especially the northern part, and beautiful Watkins Glen State Park on the northern end.

D & H Canal Linear Park

D & H Towpath to O & W Rail Trail

May, 2022 by wzvknnx87q

I started today by the Wurtsboro Fire house and managed a nice 3.5 mile run. I consider this a great trail for anyone who wants to loop around instead of doing and out and back run/walk. Some of the rail trail needs some upkeep but it’s still doable. Great hidden gem in the community.

Bethpage Bikeway

Sunday Ride

May, 2022 by senseibarb

I began in Massapequa with the intention of finishing at Woodbury Road. I made it to Trail View Park at mile marker 8 and turned around. Picture perfect biking weather , but first ride of the season. I’ll definitely finish the trail next outing. The trail is well maintained, filled with walkers, joggers and bikers. I’d definitely recommend for walking and biking

First Rail trail Ride

May, 2022 by senseibarb

My friend and I started at Hopewell Junction and glad we did. It was a nice leisurely ride up to Walkway on the Hudson in Poughkeepsie. The trail is very well maintained, and an easy ride. We locked the bikes up by the walkway, headed into town for an incredible lunch. I only wish it were more scenic but very happy we chose this way to ride.

Albany-Hudson Electric Trail

great ride so far

May, 2022 by buckbrown97

I did the loop from the Clinton Street parking area to North Chatham. The trail is nicely paved with new guardrails and clearly market. Several street crossings have the flashing light activation button to cross roads safely. There are a few convenience stores on the way in case supplies are needed, and there is an ice cream and lunch place on the trail in Nassau. There are a few sections you need to ride on the road, but they are back roads through neighborhoods not a lot of traffic

Ashokan Rail Trail

Great trail for Mid-May ride

May, 2022 by nandrix

Very consistent trail with a variety of lake, stream and Mountain View’s. A short jaunt from a mid-way entrance takes you to Fruition, a nice chocolate/ ice cream spot. Saw a snapping turtle, deer and a beaver dam & lodge. Nice information signs along the way. Given a nice Saturday, trail was thinly traveled. Did ride with E-Bikes.

Heritage Trail (NY)

Great trail end of story

May, 2022 by powderpro

I have been riding parts of this trail for about 24 years. It now goes from Harriman to downtown Middletown. To find the new section from Goshen to Middletown you have to go up West Main street in Goshen just past Clowes Ave on left then make a right where there are no trespassing signs and you will see the trail on your left. The big issue with this entire trail is about 60% of the people using it do not know or follow the rules. If one simple rule was followed, 100% of the issues would be eliminated. Walk, ride jog and skate on the right side of the trail and allow people to pass you on the left. Simple as that. Do not ignore verbal warnings or bicycle bells. When you hear a warning move to the RIGHT! I constantly encounter people using the middle or left side of the trail and ignoring warnings to move right. Many people have no concept of the fact that every time they use the trail, faster moving traffic WILL come up behind them. I have people move left after a warning, I have people refuse to move at all and I have people that stop and glare at you for ringing a bell or announcing a verbal warning. Bells and warnings are for safety people!!! I encounter people who ride bikes in groups that block the entire trail and fail to move right after a warning. It amazes me how confused people are. One simple rule people. One simple rule! Move right and stay right!

Cohoes Heritage Trail

Cohoes Heritage Trail

May, 2022 by danpagejr

Not much to say about a trail in the middle of the city and only about a mile long but it does have some great views and a lot of history that includes the old Harmony Mills that ran on hydro power and the Canals that provided the hydro power. Now please understand that by Hydro Power I mean it was powered by water not electricity. The water turned turbines in the basement that was diverted by the Canals and the power was transferred by belts and pulley's to run the Mills. Later the water was used to generate electricity but not for many years. Back in the day Cohoes had numerous Mill's and was a major employer and manufacturer of textiles.
