The Battery Bikeway is a only a half a mile long but it is an important link in the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway system, connecting the East River Greenway with the Hudson River Greenway to form a 32-mile circuit around Manhattan island. The two-lane terracotta bike path begins at the end of the East River Greenway near the Governor's Island Ferry terminal and continues through The Battery and past many of its monuments and attractions. It joins the Hudson River Greenway at Battery Pl. and West St, and that trail in turn stretches another 13 miles north.
There is no dedicated park parking but visitors who choose to drive may be able to use nearby parking garages. The Battery is also accessible via subway and bus. See the official site for details for transit directions.
This is a short yet beautiful bikeway that connects the Hudson River bikeway to the East River bikeway. You bike past large garden areas and have the option to take a quick detour off of the trail and into the park in order to take in views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Staten Island and Governor’s Island.
