Setauket-Port Jefferson Station Greenway Trail Description

The Setauket-Port Jefferson Station Greenway Trail stretches just over 3 miles along Long Island’s north shore. Construction was completed in two phases with the first trail section opening in 2009 and the subsequent phase opening in 2014.

Sometimes more simply referred to as the Setauket Greenway, the paved route ties together scenic old growth forest, farmland, meadows, business districts, the Stony Brook University campus, and county parks.

Less than a mile east of the Setauket Greenway, a future rail-trail project is underway, which will stretch 10 miles from Port Jefferson Station to the hamlet of Wading River. The new pathway will tie together six communities, schools, and parks.

Parking and Trail Access

From I-495, take Nicolls Road (Route 97) north to Route 25A. Take a right on Route 25A and travel approximately a half mile to Limroy Lane. Turn right on Limroy Lane; the parking lot and trail entrance will be on left.

Setauket-Port Jefferson Station Greenway Trail Reviews

Great trail for staying out of traffic.

This is a great trail for biking. Lots of hills so bring your ‘A’ game. You can also rent a bike from Pedego a tenth of mile away from the trailhead. The evoked will get you Thru the hills no problem. Pedego Stony Brook in East Setauket 690 NY 25A.

review

Nice and smooth paved path. Is hilly at certain points. Crosswalks are safe, with pedestrian flashing lights that are supposed to auto activate. 2 or 3 not working properly, 1 or 2 were.

Way Too Hilly For Children & Casual Riders On The Limroy Lane End

I am an experienced cyclist who doesn't mind hills and other challenges. My wife is a casual rider who likes mostly flat, but not boringly flat, rides.

I drove almost an hour to scout out this trail for one of the leisurely rides we like to do together. After literally two minutes, I turned around and rode back to my car.

This trail is NOT suitable for occasional cyclists, beginners, older riders, or younger riders. In fact, I don't really know WHO it is good for, as for someone like me who can live with a few hills, it is way too short.

Perhaps if it, at least, led somewhere scenic or lined with coffee and pie shops, it might be worth the effort. However, it appears to start in the middle of nowhere and end in the middle of nowhere.

I gave it two stars instead of one on the chance that it might get better after the first thousand feet I covered. You'll have to find out for yourself. I'm not going back.

Excellent greenway

Took the family and it was very clean and an excellent time. Windy and lots of hills and downhill runs. Recommended

Very well maintained trail

Plenty of curves and turns not to mention hills. Visiting from Florida and fairly new to cycling so the hills were a good challenge! Most of the street crossings have detectors that automatically stop traffic. Good signage for approaching hills. Pavement in excellent condition.

great walk with the pup

Perfect walk for our standard poodle. Just the right length. Friendly people . A few hills

First timer!

Went for the first time yesterday. it was beautiful. Nice and wide, not over-crowded. some hills for a bit of a challenge and best part is that I was able to bring my fur baby in a safe walking environment . .

Great trail

Very nice. Lots of small hills and curves so not boring. Great pavement and not in traffic at all. Loved it. Not too long either.
