Richard E. McDowell Trail

WOW! What a hidden treasure

November, 2021 by wwwknapp

I biked this trail on 8/14/2021 on a gorgeous 78° day. Despite the short length of this trail, it traverses over eight bridges in a span of 1.3 miles. The trail is completely paved in asphalt and is level except for a very short uphill ascent near its south end before leveling off and terminating at Clarks Lane. If I lived in the area, this trail would be one of my favorite spots to walk on a regular bases. Though all of the users that I encountered on the trail today were walkers or joggers, the trail is plenty wide enough for cyclists. Even though the trail is short, I would definitely recommend making the trip to experience this well-manicured and beautiful Trail!

This trail is a beautifully wooded and a somewhat challenging trail. The solitude and cool air even in summertime along the creek make it a perfect warm weather trail!

Kinzua Valley Trail

Found by accident

September, 2021 by sherris2020

We were camping at red bridge, and going to see the Pennsylvania elk. We were looking for some thing else to do in the area and saw this trail, so we brought our bicycles. This trail is awesome. We rode from our campsite at red bridge to the trail head and went 10 miles to the new covered bridge. I had to put my bike computer on so I could see how far we went, because they have added more to the trail from what we originally thought. I see it will be extended past the covered bridge eventually but we stopped there. Very scenic along the river. My husband was impressed at the construction of the bridges. The two by fours were laid flat together, so there were no nails sticking up. Some old bike bridges have broken off nails sticking up and hence flat tires on the bike. Really enjoyed this trail, will do it again. Lunch at historic Westline inn along the way. Delicious. Really enjoyed this trail, will do it again.

Beautiful Scenery

September, 2021 by vicki1960

Biked the Brockway end of the trail up to the Swinging Bridge. End of August, 2021. It was very hot out but most of the trail is very well shaded through the woods. Goes through State Game lands.
Trail follows Little Toby Creek. Quiet and peaceful ride.
I was on a hybrid bike and the trail is very flat. Trail surface is crushed stone which there wasn't a lot of, it was well packed dirt and easy to ride on.
Could also mountain bike on this trail or trail run!
I enjoyed my ride very much even though it took me two hours to get to, wished it were closer!

Pat McGee Trail

Grass covered and muddy

Started at Salamanca. 90% grass covered and wet. A lot of muddy patches, difficult to pedal. Only went 3 miles and turned around.
It is shaded.

Pennsylvania trail rider

August, 2021 by jagausman

We usually ride on limestone so we really enjoyed the paved trail. Very well maintained and great views. We were disappointed at the lack of trail signs. The leg from the main loop to Edward Ct. basically had none. Once we got to Route 16 we gave up and went back to the main loop to ride.

West Creek Recreational Trail

Trail is well maintained. Several parking areas, both trail heads, along RT 120 and along West Creek Rd. Emporium to St. Mary's is uphill. First 12 MI is gradual grade. Remaining miles a little steeper. Great scenery.

Beautiful, Scenic Trail

May, 2021 by emkellogg

We biked the first 3 miles of this trail (6 miles round trip) from the Wildlife Viewing Area to the 40 Maples Picnic Area. Perfect trail for families. Our kids ages 11, 9, and 6 loved it! The trail follows the river and then goes through a forested stretch. Lots of possibility for wildlife viewing along the trail. A mile in you can bike up to the gorgeous Wildlife Center/Park Office.

Knox & Kane Rail Trail

New Segment to Lantz Corners

April, 2021 by seeyajohn

We have biked and walked the trail from Mount Jewett to the bridge and enjoyed it very much. Today I had a chance to walk a portion of the trail starting at Lantz Corners and heading to Mount Jewett.

The trail makes for easy walking but would be a challenge for a road bike. It has some large gravel and is slightly bumpy in some spots. There are plans to improve that section. In the meantime, it makes for a nice 15-mile round trip walk from Lantz Corners to Kinzua Bridge State Park and back. Mount Jewett makes a great place for breakfast, lunch or both. There is a campground (High Pines) across the street from the trailhead at Lantz Corners.
