The trail is served by local bus routes 143, 168 and 912. Other access points include the intersection with the Cedar River Trail at Witte Road, Lake Wilderness Park (near Witte Road and SE 248th Street) and at the southern terminus at Maple Valley/Black Diamond Road and SE 276th Street.
It starts in a calm stand of conifers with a fairly steep 100 ft climb but is otherwise flat and smooth. The condition of the trail surface is firm enough that it can be safely ridden with a road bike (which I generally do). The crossings with major roads are through short tunnels. The sections through the neighborhoods along Lake Wilderness is quiet and the section through the park is very peaceful and provides access to a disc golf course.
