The Bonita Canyon Trail is a sidepath along Culver Drive and Bonita Canyon Drive linking the Orange County cities of Irvine and Newport Beach. Near the trail's midpoint, pick up the Shady Canyon Trail to head northeast to the scenic Quail Hill Preserve. Alternatively, continue on the sidewalk past University High School to reach the popular University Trail from the Bonita Canyon Trail's northern endpoint.
There are no official parking areas for the Bonita Canyon Trail, but parking may be available on local neighborhood streets. Be sure to obey any posted parking restrictions.
Transients now live in wooded creek bed. They leave feces, broken bottles, cigarette butts and trash in and around the trail. I’ve seen copious amounts of graffiti on the trail and in the flood control wash. It would be great if the NEWPORT Police Department would patrol the trails once in a while. Newport city should clean up the graffiti and trash.
This use to be a great hike and trail. But people have decided that their graffiti looked good here and ruined the scenery.
