Print Friendly MapThe Chandler Bikeway is a jewel tucked nicely into a Burbank neighborhood. The bikeway begins as a well-maintained corridor that runs in the median between lanes of traffic on Chandler Boulevard. Like the popular Orange Line Bike Path to the west, the trail sits on top of the Southern Pacific's old Burbank Branch. The route through Burbank is surprisingly beautiful, with a wide array of trees, shrubs and flowerbeds dotting the grounds surrounding the trail. A varied group of users make use of the bikeway, and the trail is well-marked with separate bicycle and pedestrian lanes painted on the pavement.
The first two miles are defined by the quaint and tidy neighborhood that it passes through. The area is made up of unique homes, some with very bright and vibrant paint jobs that remind you that you are in sunny Southern California. The abundance of orange and lemon trees in residents' yards also make for a wonderful sight in the winter. Another treat along this section are two trailside sculptures.
Upon crossing Clybourn Avenue, you have left the city limits of Burbank and entered the Los Angeles neighborhood of North Hollywood. The trail now shifts out of the median to the south side of the road. The surrounding cityscape changes as well from residential neighborhoods to light industrial and retail development.
The public art on display along this final mile of trail is second to none along any rail-trail. A collection of murals adorn the sides of the buildings between Clybourn Avenue and the trail's end in North Hollywood. The murals were commissioned by Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan's Targeted Neighborhood Initiative Program and created by 19 local artists. The art honors subjects ranging from the movie industry to music, nature, railroads and the bountiful harvest of California's many lush farm fields. The trail, an excellent example of land use and community development at its finest, ends at Fair Avenue after a brief switch to asphalt, just a short distance away from the heart of artsy North Hollywood and the Metro station that serves the community.
To reach the eastern trailhead from Interstate 5, take the West Burbank Boulevard exit and take a left onto West Burbank Boulevard. After just 0.3 mile take a left onto Victory Boulevard. Another short quarter-mile and you take a right onto West Chandler Boulevard. The trailhead is again a quarter-mile up Chandler Boulevard with on-street parking.
To reach the western trailhead from I-5, take the West Burbank Boulevard exit and take a left onto West Burbank Boulevard. After 3.2 miles, take a left onto Vineland Avenue. The trailhead is just a quarter-mile away on the left at the intersection with Chandler Boulevard. Parking is on-street. The western trailhead is also just a block away via bike lane or sidewalk from the North Hollywood Metro station on the city's Red Line.
One side is for bicycles, the other side for pedestrians. The pedestrians seem to wander all over the place. Point out the signs and they yell at you. very disappointing, have to dodge people all the time. Stay in your lane seems simple...
Easy ride, and pleasant
It’s a great easy ride across Burbank. You have to be aware of families and people walking on the bike lane. People don’t pay attention.
Very chill to bike this trail. I did it early morning on weekdays . Wish it never ended
Clean, sunny and breezy. Well-marked and safe. Lots of murals and statues as well as trees and plants along the way. Street parking without pay meters. Definitely recommend.
This trail feels really safe, is easy to get to and the scenery is nice but the cracks in the pavement every 3ft really suck for roller skating. Jarring thud if you're going fast and if you're going slow, your wheels get stuck and you fall over.
Nice wide concrete path on a raised median island in a residential area. There is a two way lane on the left and a pedestrian walkway on the right half of the Bikeway. It is very well landscaped.
Great for starters special if you just got a brand-new bike you want to break it in it's a little under 3 miles 2.8 to be exact. I ride it in everyday now and I think I'm ready to graduate but again it's very good for starters
One of my favorite bike path. Can not add much more to the description but the artwork is very nice varied. One of my favorites is the wall with what looks like framed artwork. Path is kept clean and the lawn is trimmed.
