Southern Dupage County Regional Trail Description

The Southern Dupage County Regional Trail connects multiple of the larger forest preserves in Dupage county together. Starting near the intersection of 75th st and Ogden Ave in Aurora, the trail runs along 75th St and through the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve on crushed stone pathways until turning northeast onto Hobson at Washington St. The path continues on asphalt along Hobson until reaching the Greene Valley Forest Preserve. Turning southward, the trail then goes through Greene Valley and exits out of the southeast side of the park. It then runs along 83rd St, Woodward Ave, and 101st St on asphalt paths until reaching Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve. Through Waterfall Glen, there is a 10 mile path around the Argonne National Laboratory through nice forest.

In the middle section, the path meets up with the Dupage River Trail, which can take you north to Downtown Naperville and Warrenville or south along the Dupage River. At the eastern terminus, the path connects via a series of bike paths down to the I&M Canal Trail/Centennial Trail in Lemont, which can then take you westward all the way past Morris to Starved Rock and other beautiful state parks.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at multiple locations within Waterfall Glen, Springbrook Prairie, and Greene Valley, all with toilets and water also available.

Good trail that connects a lot of local forest preserves and other trails

I often take this trail when I want to get places, not just as a way to spend some time outdoors. The trail connects directly with the West Branch Dupage River Trail, which then if you take north ~6 miles connects to the Illinois Prairie Path, which then connects you to basically everything. Additionally, the path goes through three of the best forest preserves in the region -- Springbrook Prairie, Greene Valley, and Waterfall Glen.

The section along 75th St east of Plainfield/Naperville Rd is somewhat narrow and not used a lot, but is made of crushed gravel and has a nice connection at Washington St via an underpass to the West Branch Dupage River Trail.
