Ewing Park Trail Description

The Ewing Park Trail is a paved path, perfect for a short bike ride or jog, located in the city of Des Moines' Ewing Park. One of the city's largest public parks, the park is home to a popular lilac arboretum that draws visitors from all over the region when the flowers bloom in late spring - during their peak, the trail (which runs on Harry Piper Parkway) is opened to one-way vehicular traffic to allow motor vehicles to access the park, but aside from that period of a couple weeks, the trail remains dedicated to bike and pedestrian traffic.

In addition to the playgrounds, picnic areas, and other recreational amenities at Ewing Park, trail users should be sure to check out the nearby Easter Lake Park and the Mark C. Ackelson Trail, which forms an over five-mile circuit around the lake. Wide sidepaths along Indianola Avenue also help you extend your journey to the north or the south, helping nearby residents access the park grounds.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the Ewing Park entrance on McKinley Avenue, just west of Indianola Avenue. Additional parking is available at the disc golf course lot at the intersection of Indianola Ave. and Easter Lake Drive.

Ewing Park Trail Reviews

Nice paved trail for walk or biking. It is just short of a mile. When we came to the end, we treked up the hill back to our car. That probably added to a full mile. Also, appears people can enjoy frisbee golf.
