The James Street Trail begins on Meredith Drive in Urbandale and stretches over two and half miles north into the neighboring municipality of Grimes. The concrete trail is generally flat and easy to ride. As one moves north from Urbandale, you become surrounded by rolling farmland. The trail's north end is at 6th Street, across from the Grimes South Sports Complex - 45 acres of playing fields for soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, volleyball and tennis. If you head east instead, along 6th Street, you can also get to the Grimes Recreation Center and Park and connect to the rest of Grimes own trail system.
At its southern end, the James Street Trail connects to the Meredith Drive Trail, which is an entry point to Urbandale's extensive network of trails.
You may be able to park at the Grimes South Sports Complex (750 James Street).
I love this trail. Surfaces are solid no pot holes or anything it is smooth riding. There is not many people that use this trail which makes riding on the trail more fun.
