Beginning at the end of the Bob Layton Trail in Urbandale, the Walnut Trace Park Trail allows walkers, cyclists, and others to continue exploring the peaceful meadows alongside Walnut Creek for over another mile. Running along the course of the creek in the preserved natural space of Bent Creek Park, the trail passes behind newly constructed suburban homes, taking trail users from Meredith Drive in the south, under 156th Street, and then up to Waterford Drive via a wide sidepath between the road and the creek. Already popular among neighborhood residents as a resource for dog-walking and jogging, as this area continues to develop and expand the trail will help ensure that residents remain connected to the area's stellar trail system.
Parking is available nearby at Walnut Creek Regional Park, off of Aurora Avenue just to the west of the intersection with 147th Street. To reach the parking lot from Interstate 35/80, take exit 126 in Urbandale and proceed west on Douglas Parkway. Turn right onto NW 128th Street, and then left onto Aurora Ave/NW 42nd Avenue. Continue onto Aurora Avenue; the parking lot will be on the right.
