The Hudson to Lakeland/Afton Trail begins at Buckeye Street in Hudson, Wisconsin, not far from the eastern bank of the St. Croix River. The paved trail parallels 2nd Street, heading south through Birkmose Park and offers views of the water and marina. The route crosses the river along I-94 on a bike lane separated from traffic with a protective barrier. On the other (western) side of the bridge, trail users enter Lakeland, Minnesota, and can connect to the 4-mile Afton to Lakeland Trail at Hudson Road.
Parking is available on the east side of the trail in Birkmose Park (50 Coulee Road Hudson, WI).
I’ve been using this trail across the Saint Croix River for 40 years and every time I have to stop in the middle and look north all the beautiful islands and sailboats moored in front of Hudson. The trail is next to I94 so you’ll have noise but it’s worth it.
narrow concrete sidewalk on the Hudson side of the river, narrow lane over the river, lots of blind spots
