This trail runs along the southern perimeter of Battle Creek Regional Park, wandering through wetlands, grasslands and woodlands all within a two-mile span. The trail begins on Point Douglas Road, which acts as the entrance to the Battle Creek Regional Park. It's trailhead is located a few feet from the intersection of Point Douglas and Lower Afton roads. At the end of Point Douglas Road is a parking area that serves as a trailhead for the Battle Creek Regional Park Trail, which heads east, and the Sam Morgan Regional Trail which heads west along the Mississippi River.
The Lower Afton Road Trail ends at Century Avenue in Maplewood, at the edge of the Ramsey County Correctional Facility property. (The trail slopes downhill back to the west trailhead on Point Douglas Road). This is the first two miles of a trail that may someday extend into Woodbury and Afton.
Park at the Battle Creek Regional Park trailhead near US 61 and ride or walk down Point Douglas Road to the start of the trail near Lower Afton Trail.
