Rice Creek West Regional Trail Description

The Rice Creek West Regional Trail travels the final five miles of the creek’s 46-mile journey to the Mississippi River. The trail connects the residents living along its length to creek’s rich environmental heritage, as well as to local and county parks.  It begins in New Brighton, Ramsey County as a paved pathway heading northwest from Long Lake Park paralleling an active Canadian Pacific Railway line. It also shares the utility corridor within that same right-of-way.

At County Creek 9 the trail makes a sharp left turn south along Stinson Boulevard and into the Rice Creek corridor in Fridley, Anoka County. In contrast to the straight shot that is the Ramsey County portion, the trail in Anoka takes a more meandering course through the riparian woodland. It emerges from the trees in Locke County Park. Cross University Avenue to reach Fridley Community and Plaza parks.

To connect to Manomin Park on the banks of the Mississippi, take the below-grade railroad crossing from Plaza Park to Lock Lake Park. From Lock Lake Park, you can travel along Rice Creek Way, a quiet residential street, and cross East River Road into Manomin Park.

Parking and Trail Access

In New Brighton, you can park at Sunny Square Park. There’s parking at the end of Longview Drive, and from there you can take Gregory Drive and Silver Lake Road to connect to the rail-with-trail.

In Fridely, Lock County Park has parking, restrooms, and water fountains, among many other amenities. There’s plenty of parking on the lots along 71st Avenue.

Across University Avenue from Locke County Park, you can also park your vehicle in Fridely Community Park.

You can also choose to start your journey at Manomin Park (6666 E River Rd) and connect to the trail via Rice Creek Way.

Rice Creek West Regional Trail Reviews

great!!!

Went with my dog and we had a blast! It goes along the creek with a lot of bridges. Really pulls you out of the city. Can’t say enough good things

Very nice trail. Eastern end is straight and sunny with slight rolling hills. Western half is hilly, winding, and gorgeous by the creek, except for the huge new multi housing development near the end.

Great bike trail!

Rolling hills, scenic views, and not too crowded. A great workout especially with hills!!
