Swedish Immigrant Trail Description

The developing Swedish Immigrant Trail will one day span 22 miles from Taylors Falls on the banks of the St. Croix River to the central Minnesota town of Wyoming. The paved trail will run east-west trail across Chisago County paralleling Highway 8 and follow a former rail line that once carried many Swedish settlers during the late 1800s. Much of the rail-trail will be wooded.

Three short disconnected segments of the trail in Shafer, Lindstrom, and Chisago City are currently completed.

In Wyoming, the future trail will intersect the Sunrise Prairie Trail, a north-south route stretching 16 miles. The Swedish Immigrant Trail will also connect to the Chisago Lakes Area and Interstate State Park.

Parking and Trail Access

In Shafer, on-street parking is available downtown, off Redwing Avenue near 303rd Street. Look for the trail signs with the blue and yellow colors of Sweden’s flag.
