The Twin Lakes Regional Trail provides a conduit for both recreation and commuting between Brooklyn Center and Robbinsdale. This urban trail begins in the commercial area of Brooklyn Center, splitting off from the Shingle Creek Regional Trail (at Bass Lake Road) before weaving in and out of various residential neighborhoods. Significant portions of the trail are on-road.
The route finally provides views of the lakes that give it its name close to its southern terminus at the Bottineau Boulevard (CR 81) interchange in Robbinsdale. In Robbinsdale, the trail also links to the Crystal Lake Regional Trail.
The trail is a work-in-progress: new segments and trail realignments are either planned or under construction. The most significant is the connection along 57th Avenue N to the Mississippi River. Ultimately, while 3.2 miles are open to users now, the final trail length will be 4.4 miles. Construction will be completed in 2017.
Parking will be provided at existing local parks, shopping centers (mainly along the northern half of the trail in Brooklyn Center), on-street and regional parks on, and along, the trail.
